Summary

Love both books so far (now onto the third!), but with Godsgrave。。。。。 did anyone else keep comparing it to Spartacus? A few of the scenes I couldn't help but keep seeing the TV show。 Example。 The pissing in the porridge, the winnowing with "the Siege of Blackbridge" reenactment。It really felt like the author might have been watching the series while writing this 🤔 I love both so I'm not complaining, much love regardless。 Love both books so far (now onto the third!), but with Godsgrave。。。。。 did anyone else keep comparing it to Spartacus? This would have probably been a 5-star review, but I’ve heard most of this story before。 Much of the plot and the characters were lifted straight from the Spartacus series on STARZ。 So Kristoff only gets credit for the work he did himself。 Honestly, I don’t know how this was not flagged for copyright infringement。 It’s not just “inspired by” or borrowing a few character names in homage。 It’s straight up plagiarized in parts。 I won’t be continuing with this series or this author。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was about to give 3 stars but that ending had me gasping so I'll give it 4 stars (also because Kristoff gave the gays what they wanted even if we didn't ask lol)。I have so many thing to say about this book。 I found it less interesting that the first one。 My main problem was the setting。 I liked the first 100 pages (i think?) in which Mia is still a Blade。 I wanted to see more of that but we only got a glimpse。 Another thing that got me mad, in the first book too, it's how kristoff waste his ch I was about to give 3 stars but that ending had me gasping so I'll give it 4 stars (also because Kristoff gave the gays what they wanted even if we didn't ask lol)。I have so many thing to say about this book。 I found it less interesting that the first one。 My main problem was the setting。 I liked the first 100 pages (i think?) in which Mia is still a Blade。 I wanted to see more of that but we only got a glimpse。 Another thing that got me mad, in the first book too, it's how kristoff waste his characters。 Jess was such an interesting character but he killed her off like that。 I'm not mad about Ashlinn, she's interesting too and i like her character but imagine if Jess was the love interest and not her。 Mia and Jess grow from the same tragic childhood, their destiny was interwine。 But no。 Let's kill her off without giving her a proper chance。 I wanted Mia and Jess to become friends and companions, alongside with Ash。 As much as i like Ash and Mia as a couple I found them not very effective。 We didn't see the point in which Mia stars to feel something for her, or at least I didn't see it。 There wasn't growth。 I mean, she killed Tric and she was not taken accountable for that, or very little。 Their love story felt rushed and not well written。 (Let's not forget that at the end of the first book Ash was ready to kill Mia in the final battle but she had to escape at the end。 But in this book she denies it。 "I wouldn't let them" This left me confused。 I don't know if it's bad writing or if the reader was supposted to read between the lines)。Anyway, this book and this series in general seems unable to break through my heart。 It's nice, yes, but I've read better。 。。。more

“In every breath, hope abides。” 。。。 “Just keep breathing, little Crow。” It’s safe to say that if Nevernight chewed me up and spat me out, this one bludgeoned me with a mallet until I was a bloody pulp! The second in the Nevernight chronicles & once again brilliantly written, overall, I prefer the pace & storyline of Godsgrave compared to Nevernight。 While NN took a little bit of time to get into the rhythm of the story, this one plunges you headfirst into the blood pools of this world, all the while you’re wiping the gore & muck from your eyes。 Mia continues her journey of avenging her family in this one, going so far as to sell herself into slavery to make it possible, becoming a Gadiataii to do it。 There is a lot more action in this one, the pace faster & though I didn’t think it possible, the stakes even higher。 I’ll once again remind readers to guard their hearts, don’t allow yourself to fall in love with anyone in Jay’s stories, he’s as brutal as he is brilliant with his storylines, which means very few make it out with a pulse。 While there was plenty of bloodshed, there was also plenty of character development for Mia & the relationships around her。 I won’t say who I stupidly ended up loving because as I’ve warned you already, loving anyone in this story just sets you up for heartbreak, but feel free to tell me who you did & I’ll respond in kind。 LGBTQIA+ love, sorcery, slavery, assassin's, epic Gladiator battles, snark, shadow magic, & plenty vengeance, Jay covered ALL his bases in this one, how this one can be topped is yet to be seen but I have a feeling I’ll be needing at least one kitty on my lap at all times while reading it to keep me calm。 I still love Eclipse & Mister Kindly, their snark & resentment of each other was amusing。 I laughed at the epilogue with Jay addressing the reader being upset about the cliff-hanger 😂 if Darkdawn wasn’t already on my shelf ready to be read as soon as Godsgrave was finished it would have applied to me! 。。。more

This book was gripping and entertaining from the beginning to the end。 There was always a lot of actions and twists and turns。 Especially at the end, it was just plot twist after plot twist (some more predictable than others but all good nonetheless), and I really enjoyed the precise of this book。 Also while I like main characters that are morally grey, I love main characters who are villainous at times。 Abs Mia is both those things with a sprinkle of bitchiness and a dash of vulgarity。 Great ma This book was gripping and entertaining from the beginning to the end。 There was always a lot of actions and twists and turns。 Especially at the end, it was just plot twist after plot twist (some more predictable than others but all good nonetheless), and I really enjoyed the precise of this book。 Also while I like main characters that are morally grey, I love main characters who are villainous at times。 Abs Mia is both those things with a sprinkle of bitchiness and a dash of vulgarity。 Great main characters。 Cannot wait to pick up the final book。 。。。more

This was an exciting second book。 There is a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see the conclusion in book three。 Tons of gory scenes with a backdrop of gladiator type of fighting。 Lots of twists and turns to keep you gasping and guessing。 This was an exciting second book。 There is a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see the conclusion in book three。 Tons of gory scenes with a backdrop of gladiator type of fighting。 Lots of twists and turns to keep you gasping and guessing。 。。。more

。。more

Don't remember how I found this series, but I love it!! Enjoyed this book more than the last one, which sometimes isn't the case with a series。 Still full of twists and turns that make you love Mia "Crow", even more。 Such a great heroine!!! I really love this series。This book took me much longer to finish than it should have but through no fault of its own。 Life and all。 But it was an action-packed, emotional, and well-written epic that has me giddy with anticipation for the finale。As Nevernight followed the "boarding school" trope, it can be tricky to follow that up properly。 And it was a risk to have the story move to gladiator-style focus but I think it worked fantastically。 Not only does it build and expand upon the Italian-ins I really love this series。This book took me much longer to finish than it should have but through no fault of its own。 Life and all。 But it was an action-packed, emotional, and well-written epic that has me giddy with anticipation for the finale。As Nevernight followed the "boarding school" trope, it can be tricky to follow that up properly。 And it was a risk to have the story move to gladiator-style focus but I think it worked fantastically。 Not only does it build and expand upon the Italian-inspired world but it allows for plenty of action and tense situations。All of the characters, new and old, are well written and no one felt like a plot device or stock character。 Watching Mia grow throughout this book is excellent, and her relationships with the various characters is so well-written。 Jay Kristoff really expanded on Nevernight, in both characters and world-building, and the series is much better for it。Overall, another excellent entry to this series and one I'll be thinking about for a while。 Hopefully Darkdawn sends the series off on a high note! 。。。more

If I would've read these books as they released, I would've gone INSANE waiting a year for the next installment, because the ending to this one is GODDAMN WILD。Godsgrave is somehow even better than Nevernight and I am both absolutely terrified and thrilled to start reading the last of this chronicle。 If I would've read these books as they released, I would've gone INSANE waiting a year for the next installment, because the ending to this one is GODDAMN WILD。Godsgrave is somehow even better than Nevernight and I am both absolutely terrified and thrilled to start reading the last of this chronicle。 。。。more
